The strategy for the AAU Science & Innovation Hub (SIH) is in place. A strategy that was created through broad cooperation across AAU.
John K. Pedersen, Pro-dean for Research and Innovation at Engineering and Deputy Chair of the strategy group says:
- The Science & Innovation Hub is for interdisciplinary research, collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship. Therefore, I am also pleased that in the strategy process, both in the development of the strategy and in the implementation, there is broad representation across faculties, innovation and shared services.
The Science & Innovation Hub is anchored with Innovation Director Dorte Stigaard, and the implementation of the strategy lies with the Strategic Council for Research and Innovation. The council is responsible for producing action plans to ensure that the strategy is implemented and anchored at AAU.
The five goals for the AAU Science & Innovation Hub are:
More entrepreneurs and increased entrepreneurship skills among students and researchers
Focused and mission-oriented interdisciplinary research and education
An attractive and engaging innovation environment for researchers, students and collaboration partners
Establishing a physical and digitally focused collaboration with the wider world
Administrative and professional support and coordination of activities in SIH as well as support for the building’s residents and clients
The five goals will be achieved through activities in innovation, interdisciplinary and mission-oriented research, education and collaboration, entrepreneurship, knowledge collaboration, and the green transition and digitalisation.
The mission-oriented approach is particularly important and just the right path for the Science & Innovation hub. An increased focus on mission-oriented development will support Knowledge for the World 2.0 and strengthen AAU's position in relation to mission-oriented development.
- Missions are intractable problems that cannot be solved by one discipline, one sector or one industry. So it’s really fantastic that SIH gives us a platform to lift our already strong collaborations to new heights. In particular, I am pleased that the building is for both students and researchers, and will promote interdisciplinary science, entrepreneurship and innovation not only for companies, but also the public sector, says Innovation Director Dorte Stigaard.
With the strategy in place, the next tasks can begin.
An external strategy must be created so that external partners gain insight into the strategic direction set for the Science & Innovation Hub.
Action plans must be drawn up to ensure that the strategy is realised. The Strategic Council for Research and Innovation will set up five working groups to draw up these action plans.
Academic staff and administrative and technical staff will be represented in the working groups, and the groups will be composed across faculties, AAU Innovation and Shared Services.
The working titles for the five working groups are:
Innovation and entrepreneurship
Interdisciplinary research
Interdisciplinary education
Digital support and administration
Operations and logistics
